Applying for free school meals is fast and easy.

For some people the stigma attached to applying for Free School Meals is overwhelming and can stop them making that application which could potentially save them over £400 a year. To help eliminate this we have recently signed up to a new service which allows parents/carers to apply online. You are advised straight away if you are eligible and the school is notified by email. No forms, phone calls or providing hard to find evidence! If you think you may be eligible for free school meals, you can apply from the privacy of your own home by logging onto:

Can my child get free school meals?

Yes if you receive one of the following:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Job Seekers' Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit provided that you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of less than £16,190
  • The 'Guarantee' element of the State Pension Credit

 

PARENTS RECEIVING WORKING TAX CREDIT ARE NOT ELIGIBLE

You must also:

  • Have a child in education at a maintained school

 

Our aim...

There are over 19,500 children in Windsor & Maidenhead schools, but only 1,335 children are currently eligible to have a free school meal. We think there are many more children who could be eligible for Free School Meals. We would like to help families whose children may be entitled to get free school meals to apply for them.

 

Why apply?

School dinners provide a healthy, nutritious and tasty meal Research shows that a school dinner can help concentration levels Menus are varied and are available from the school Schools may be able to receive additional DfE funding We can access funding which could be used towards the cost of some school visits or activities for those children who are eligible for Free School Meals.
