Looking Ahead: Master Chef Semi-Final Next Week
We’re thrilled to be entering the semi-final stage of our school’s Master Chef competition next week! The semi-final challenge will take place during Lessons 4 and 5 on Monday. Students will have two hours to whip up a pasta dish from scratch using the basic ingredients we provide pasta, tomatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, celery, salt, and pepper—and to create an accompaniment of their choice (for example, garlic bread or a salad).
Here’s what to expect:
- Timing & Planning: Each team will have a full two hours to plan, prepare, cook, and plate their creations. This mirrors real-life cooking competitions, where multitasking and time management are essential.
- Group Collaboration: Teams can work together for this round, developing their ideas collectively. However, if they advance to the final, each student will cook individually.
- Judging Criteria: Dishes will be judged on both taste and presentation, so students are encouraged to bring extra ingredients and presentation items (like plates or garnishes) if they wish to elevate their entries .
- Optional Extras: Students can bring in additional ingredients—cheese, herbs, spices, or proteins—to enhance their dish, but it’s not mandatory.
- Support for Year 6 Trip Students: Anyone away on the Year 6 residential trip will be given time to complete their semi-final challenge upon their return.
Participating in this cook-off will offer a rich learning experience, boosting creativity, time management, teamwork, and confidence, valuable life skills that extend far beyond the kitchen .
We’re excited to support our budding chefs and can’t wait to taste their amazing dishes. Best of luck to everyone—may your sauces be perfect and your presentations shine
