Ongoing Initiatives

Tesco Stronger Starts

From January 2026

Tesco Stronger Starts is a national funding programme run by Tesco Stronger Starts that helps schools and community groups access grants to support children and young people.

Through this initiative, our PTA has applied for funding to support new playground equipment and outdoor seating, helping to improve our outdoor spaces for pupils during breaktimes and social times.

How it works

  • Local Tesco customers receive voting tokens when they shop in store

  • Shoppers vote for local projects using these tokens

  • The project with the most votes receives funding (with additional funding awarded to runners-up)

How this helps our school

Funding from Tesco Stronger Starts is being used to:

  • Purchase new playground equipment to encourage active play

  • Provide outdoor benches and seating areas for pupils to rest and socialise

  • Improve the overall quality and usability of our outdoor spaces

  • Support wellbeing, inclusion and positive play experiences

How families can support

When our project is live:

  • Look out for voting tokens at your local Tesco store

  • Use your token to vote for our school

  • Encourage friends and family to vote too — every token helps

All funding received through Tesco Stronger Starts goes directly towards playground and outdoor improvements for our school community.

PTA Equipment Shop

We know how expensive buying and replacing school equipment can be.
That’s why the PTA has used the school’s bulk-buying power to purchase essential equipment at a lower cost — and pass those savings directly on to families.

Through the PTA Equipment Shop, parents and carers can purchase a fully stocked pencil case for just £2, helping ensure every child has the equipment they need to succeed in school.

What’s included

Each pencil case contains:

  • 1 × blue pen

  • 1 × purple pen

  • 1 × whiteboard pen

  • 1 × highlighter

  • 1 × pencil

  • 1 × glue stick

  • 1 × eraser

How to purchase

  • Pencil cases are available via the Arbor Shop

  • Once purchased, please email office@dedworthmiddleschool.co.uk with your child’s name

  • The school office will deliver the pencil case directly to your child in school

Why this matters

This initiative is a simple, cost-effective way to:

  • Reduce financial pressure on families

  • Ensure pupils are fully equipped for learning

  • Promote fairness and inclusion across the school
